Join our team and guest medium, as we lock ourselves in Ruthin gaol to investigate its gruesome and brutal past on an overnight ghost hunt!

Compass Paranormal Events have full access to the site for this exclusive ghost hunt.

Ruthin Gaol holds a dark history of torture, brutality and squalid conditions for murderers and the most revered criminals of its time.

It was originally built in 1654 but became inhabitable by 1775, when a new building was needed.

Built on the same site it incarcerated 100 prisoners, all being housed together in the poorest conditions, in 1826 it included women and children and along with it's daily bruatlity it conducted its own gruesome hangings with audiences. The last one being in 1903, where the execution of William Hughes, on 17 February, 1903, was witnessed by six people. It was reported the last thing Hughes did before he left his cell was look at a photograph of his family.

"At 8 o'clock on Tuesday morning last, William Hughes, of Denbigh, was executed on the gallows within Ruthin Gaol for the murder of his wife".

Finally the prison closed in1916 and was left empty until the council acquired it in 1926.

The buildings was then used as a library and offices up until WWII where it was used as a munitions factory, and then later as council offices and eventually as you see it today. There have been numerous paranormal experiences with many people reporting seeing and hearing unusual things.

With its violent past it’s no surprise that Ruthin Gaol has earned its name as one of the most haunted buildings in North Wales. With reports of cell doors slamming one at a time, and the footsteps and voices of a brutal gaoler who used to be revered by all that were housed there!!!

Join our team and guest medium as we attempt to evoke the contact of the many spirits that still haunt this gaol.

Our team will carry out experiments of new and old techniques to encourage paranormal activity. Dare you volunteer to be part of some of their more extreme experiments?

Join in with group séances, table tipping and more. As with all our events you will have the opportunity to break down into smaller groups and carry out your own investigation, with the help and guidance of our team.

Our ghost hunting equipment will all be made available for your use, and you will be shown how to use it effectively.

You are welcome to bring any ghost hunting equipment of your own, and don't forget your camera and / or camcorder.
